Questions & Answers

We received a number of thoughtful questions during the webinar. Here’s the recap.

How often should sensors be calibrated?

Industry best practice is every 12 months, but the ideal interval depends on your accrediting body, regulatory requirements, and internal SOPs. CLIA requires accuracy and reliability but doesn’t set a fixed interval for environmental monitoring, while some labs choose 24 months with mid-point spot checks, and others require calibration as often as every year.

How can we reduce false alarms and still get notified when it matters?

Use time delays in your alert settings to avoid notifications from short temperature fluctuations (such as door openings). Role-based alarm templates ensure alerts go to the right person first, with escalation paths if there’s no response.

What happens to data if there’s a power or network outage?

DicksonOne loggers store up to 30,000 readings in onboard memory, so no data is lost. With LoRaWAN and a cellular-enabled gateway on backup power, monitoring and alerts can continue during outages.

Can we mix different connection types in one system?

Yes. Facilities can combine LoRaWAN, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet-connected devices within the same DicksonOne platform, making it easy to choose the best option for each location or department.

How do we prove daily temperature checks were completed?

Use the daily temperature check report or add annotations directly in DicksonOne. Both include timestamps and the name of the reviewer, meeting CAP’s requirement for initials and sign-offs.

Can we schedule automated reports?

Yes. Reports such as excursion summaries and calibration due dates can be emailed on a weekly or monthly basis to anyone who needs them, from department managers to compliance officers.
