OCEASOFT's early days
At the dawn of the 2000s, after contributing to the development of guidance software for nuclear missiles — he graduated from the French Air Force Technical School — Laurent Rousseau joins a group assisting the private sector in overcoming high-tech challenges. He quickly catches the entrepreneurial bug. “It was in my DNA. Entrepreneurship is a lot of adrenaline”, he tells Les Echos in 2018. In 1999, after developing his first temperature data loggers in his garage, he founds OCEASOFT. Rousseau has identified the growing need for technologies that could precisely monitor critical parameters such as temperature and humidity, particularly in sectors like healthcare and scientific research.
The first OCEASOFT Data Loggers
Investing in Wireless technologies
To remain at the forefront of innovation, OCEASOFT quickly integrates technologies to simplify the transmission of data captured by its data loggers.
- Radio waves, Wi-Fi, SigFox: the company adapts its temperature data loggers to communicate wirelessly with transmission relays or data storage and processing servers.
- The latest versions of OCEASOFT data loggers now include LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) technology: a long-range, low-power communication protocol specifically designed for IoT (Internet of Things) applications.
- This technology revolutionizes OCEASOFT's ability to offer real-time monitoring solutions over much greater distances than traditional technologies, without requiring costly or complex cellular networks.
- Thanks to LoRaWAN, OCEASOFT sensors can transmit data over several kilometers, even in dense urban or industrial environments. This advancement is particularly valuable in the agri-food and logistics sectors, where reliable and remote monitoring of environmental conditions is crucial to ensuring product quality and safety.
Another major advancement is the miniaturization and integration of Bluetooth, enabling OCEASOFT to develop Emerald and Atlas: compact, lightweight, and durable data loggers, perfect for meeting temperature monitoring needs in transport and logistics.
The Evolution of the Cobalt Data Logger
Cobalt, OCEASOFT's flagship product, has undergone significant evolution since its first version. Initially designed for temperature monitoring, the Cobalt data logger gradually expanded with new features and extended capabilities to meet the growing demands of its users. Here are some of Cobalt's key evolutions.
Each new iteration of the Cobalt is guided by customer feedback and the evolution of industry standards. OCEASOFT continually improves the robustness, accuracy, and reliability of its products to ensure they meet the specific needs of the most demanding sectors.
1
Cobalt 2
The first wireless version of Cobalt. Highly robust and reliable, equipped with a LCD screen and compatible with a wide range of sensors (for temperature, humidity, CO2, differential pressure, dry contact, and more), Cobalt 2 is still in use at numerous customers around the world and still benefits from the maintenance services of Dickson/OCEASOFT specialists.
2
Cobalt S
An improved version of the original Cobalt, the Cobalt S integrates advanced features such as multi-parameter monitoring (temperature, humidity, pressure, etc.), offering increased versatility for various applications. This model was designed to provide even greater accuracy, with increased storage capacity for longer monitoring periods.
3
Cobalt L3 et ML3
With the introduction of LoRaWAN technology, Cobalt L3 enabled simplified and less costly wireless real-time monitoring. Its derivative, the ML3, is a compact data logger, particularly suitable for transport and logistics.
4
Cobalt X
A major evolution in the Cobalt range, the Cobalt X combines LoRaWAN and Bluetooth technologies to offer maximum flexibility. This model is designed to be compatible with existing infrastructures while providing the benefits of long-range monitoring. Cobalt X is also equipped with an improved user interface and cloud data management capabilities, allowing easy and secure access to data from anywhere in the world. It is now available in a compact yet equally versatile version: Cobalt XS.
OCEASOFT's International Expansion
- With its innovations, OCEASOFT quickly gains international market share. The company first expands into Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Scandinavian countries, India, and the Persian Gulf — countries where the pharmaceutical and agri-food industries are particularly developed and have very high temperature control requirements. Among its clients are industry giants like Airbus, INRA, and GlaxoSmithKline, which use OCEASOFT solutions to ensure the quality and safety of their products throughout the supply chain.
- Subsequently, OCEASOFT continues its global expansion, acquiring more and more clients in Asia, but also in North America, especially in the United States, where OCEASOFT establishes a subsidiary in 2016 in New Jersey.
The Partnership with Dickson
“This partnership with Dickson allows us to consolidate our leadership position and continue to innovate while accessing new markets under one unified brand”
Laurent Rousseau, founder of OCEASOFT
In 2019, Dickson and OCEASOFT merge. Laurent Rousseau sees this partnership as an opportunity to expand the reach of OCEASOFT’s technological solutions while preserving the values, identity and quality of service that made the french company a leader in the market.
Together, the two companies combine their respective expertise to create even more efficient solutions and meet the growing global needs for environmental monitoring and compliance.
