Universal sensors: an intelligent interface for customised monitoring

Dickson universal sensors are not sensors in the strict sense, but acquisition interfaces capable of receiving and interpreting analogue or digital signals from third-party sensors. Thanks to their great compatibility, they allow :

  • Support for multiple protocols or signals: 4-20 mA, 0-5 V, 0-10 V, pulses, dry-contact digital signals, etc.
Integration of customised sensors: thermocouples, flowmeters, level sensors, particle or gas detectors, vibration sensors, oxygen levels, etc.
  • Configurable settings: each input can be defined in terms of conversion scales, units of measurement, alert thresholds for each sensor, etc.
  • Simplified calibration management: thanks to Dickson’s exclusive Smart-Sensor technology, your universal sensor comes with its own calibration parameters, carefully calculated by our Malaysia Standards ISO/IEC 17025-accredited OCEASOFT laboratory.
  • Direct connection to the Dickson ecosystem, with wired or wireless transmission (via our OCEAView-compatible data loggers).

The universal sensor thus becomes an ‘intelligent translator’, opening up your monitoring system to a large number of parameters without multiplication of platforms or software interfaces.

Why use an Universal Sensor?

Universal sensors are a strategic choice for technical or industrial sites faced with complex constraints. In particular, they make it possible to:

  • Centralise all critical measurements within a single tool, avoiding parallel systems.
  • Upgrade easily: if a new requirement arises (monitoring CO₂, adding a level sensor, etc.), simply connect a new probe, without overhauling the infrastructure.
  • Reduce deployment costs by using sensors that are already installed or standardised in your process.
  • Strengthen documentary and regulatory consistency: all data is logged, time-stamped, traced and available in DicksonOne reports.
  • Supervise remote or critical equipment (fridges, PLCs, air handling units, etc.) simply by connecting their output to a universal sensor.

In sectors such as healthcare, agri-food, logistics and research, this versatility is a major asset for improving responsiveness, reliability and safety.

OCEAView + universal sensors: a combination as flexible as it is powerful

Universal sensors really come into their own when combined with OCEAView, the monitoring software platform developed by Dickson. This combination allows you to :

  • Create a totally customised monitoring system, with a consistent display of data from all your sensors, whether Dickson or third-party.
  • Generate specific alerts for each signal: critical threshold exceeded, overcurrent, low liquid level, absent signal, etc.
Ensure complete traceability: Audit Trail with event logging, time stamping, history of thresholds, etc.
  • Meet the specific regulatory requirements of your industry, including standards as stringent as GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, ISO 17025
  • Extend your monitoring capabilities without hardware constraints: a single universal sensor can accommodate several inputs, and the system can be upgraded at any time.

Thanks to this technological openness, Dickson gives you the means to exploit the full potential of your equipment and guarantee reliable, modular supervision in compliance with your regulatory requirements, whatever your field of activity.
